Being other-oriented vs self-oriented

Even as rookie head coach Jim Zorn and his Redskins have struggled through the second-half of the season, Coach Zorn is attempting to maintain a balance between football and life.

For example, before sending his guys home for the Thanksgiving break, he called them together and told them:

"When you go home to your families today don't walk in the room and say, 'Here I am!' You need to walk into the room this afternoon and say, 'There you are.'"

Why?

"I wanted these guys to be other-oriented, not self-oriented," Zorn said the following day. "I think that is one of the things that these guys get falsely pushed toward."

According to one WASH player:

"[Coach Zorn is] a life-skills guy.  He'll focus on football, but he's going to make sure you get something about life, too."
