How losing changes a coach

In 1993, Barry Melrose led the LA Kings to the Stanley Cup Finals. He then spent a dozen years as a hockey analyst for ESPN before signing on as coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning in June.

Coach Melrose went 5-7-4 in 16 games with TB before he was fired last month.

"I forgot how tough it was to lose, how much you take home, how much it changes me and, as my wife will tell you, not for the better. You don't sleep, you don't eat properly. "[Today] with the big contracts, the union, how hard it is to trade players. The players are all-powerful in the NHL now."

He announced today that he's returning to ESPN next month.
