In 1987, the Clippers hired me right out of college to sell season tickets at the old LA Sports Arena. A few months later, Elgin and Barry Hecker, recognizing that I didn't have much of a future as a salesman, allowed me to do some legwork in preparation for the draft. For that, I am forever indebted.
Easygoing, gracious, loyal, and amiable Elgin is one of the "good guys" in pro sports.
As Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak put it:
"For the last 40 years, Elgin has been a part of basketball, so I'm saddened by this."
